Taos, New Mexico is a quirky little town that’s just about 1 hour and 15 minutes away from Santa Fe – so basically, it’s the perfect day trip. We love heading up when we have a little extra free time on the weekends, just to wonder around and get a margarita. It’s fun in any season, but summer it’s especailly cute. Everything has greened up and has that summertime sparkle about it.
We love to walk around the main square plaza and then up to Kit Carson park, wondering in and out of the random little shops. They are full of souvenirs, kitchen supplies, art, outdoors(y) clothing and there’s even a great Japanese Tea shop! Secretly, the tea shop is my favorite – it’s called Wabi Sabi.
Final tip, take a drive up the Taos Ski Valley to Arroyo Seco, there’s not much there but it’s a beautiful drive and a neat stop. Once there, you’ll find some great local ice cream from Taos Cow and a cool old general store with knick knacks, several art galleries and places to eat.
Driving all the way up to the ski basin is worth it when you have the time, it’s alway fun to ride the chair lifts in the summer or fall to get a full landscape view and stop by their ever so cool, Bavarian Restaurant. Pretzels anyone?! YES please!
So, if you don’t have plans this weekend or are looking for a fun little inspired day-trip this month – go to Taos! It never disappoints!
Plus, if you’ve never been you’ll have to make a stop at the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, it kinda takes your breath away. Once you do it 3+ times you can take it off your to do list, but if you haven’t seen it, it’s a NEW MEXICO MUST!
